when John Hurt was in shadow, I thought that he represented the 12th Doctor
like neither Clara nor Eleventh knew who he was or what he looked like, so he was in shadow to protect his identity
I thought that he was a secret because he was the unknown, and when Clara fainted, Eleventh would just walk out dramatically, leaving the audience wondering who the 12th Doctor would be
if only
so technically Clara was like Bad Wolf because she was scattered through space and time to lead the Doctor to Trenzalore
on the one hand, they didn’t reveal the Doctor’s name, they got the River Song death correct, the Clara thing actually made sense, and everything was pretty much alright
on the other hand, I didn’t like the Great Intelligence’s dialogue at all, I don’t know how I feel about John Hurt, and I think they over-used the Doctor flashbacks
but you know what? that was a good episode :D
same here darling <3
Nine was my Doctor - he was the one that introduced me to Doctor Who in the first place. Sure, looking back, his episodes weren’t the best written, but they had a hell of a lot of heart. Ninth had heart while Eleventh seems to have lost that. He seems to be clinging on to Clara, who, according to him, is the “only mystery worth solving”. Excuse me? No! Doctor Who is about exploration! If you’ve lost faith in one thing, you go and find another thing to be passionate about! You don’t give up and live on a cloud! What did Ninth do when he saw his own race burn in the Time War? He went to Earth and tried to stop the Nestene Consciousness. He met another girl. He travelled and lived and came alive. What did Eleventh do when he lost his two friends? He went into depression and holed himself away. WHAT?!
Ninth taught us so much. He taught us to get on with our lives. He taught us that everyone was important, even though it seems as though we are insignificant.
“The Empty Child” and “The Doctor Dances” are my favourite episodes ever, and you know why? The monster was HUMAN. It showed us that humans can be insane, can be bad, and this was just a child! A child looking for its mother. Emotions control us - and that’s why the Doctor loves us. Ninth didn’t give up on us. And at the end, Ninth said “everybody lives!” and he’s so happy because it’s true! He watched his race die - finally, just this once, he gets to see something live, and something inside him comes alive again. He’s the old Doctor, the one that saved lives and planets and civilisations. He’s himself again because that one child lived.
A lot of people skip Nine, and a lot of people give them shit for it. The reason you can’t skip Nine is not because he’s one of the Doctors, not because he’s the best Doctor, but because he teaches us so much. This is especially for children, because they are very impressionable (I know I was).
Ninth showed us that no matter who we are, what we are, where we live, how we live - we are human and we are fantastic. And that’s why he’s fantastic too.
